The Lutheran Service Book

In 2006, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod  published a new hymnal  for public worship and personal devotion. Many helps for private reflection include readings and prayers, special occasions and festivals, and other resources that make this hymnal  valuable for church and home.  At Messiah we have been using the LSB since September of  2006.  In the Sunday Bulletin the hymns are listed as LSB plus the page number.
The LSB contains many familiar liturgies and hymns along with some that are not so familiar, which we will learn and use as we expand our worship.
On festival days we are joined by brass and flute as we celebrate the feast.

     "The Singing Church"

The Lutheran Church has often been called "the singing church".   At Messiah we worship joyfully within the Lutheran liturgical tradition.   The framework of the church year helps us to proclaim the Gospel as we sing, chant, and offer our prayer.

    From Dr. Martin Luther

Next to the word of God, music deserves the highest praise
...to comfort the sad...
to encourage the despairing,
 to humble the proud,
 to calm the passionate,
or to appease those full of hate.

    From the Word of God

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another in all wisdom and as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your heart to God.
